I Michael Dalton started in tile 19 years ago in California.  I have ventured east working at random custom shops across the country expanding my knowledge and learning from the biggest names in the tile industry.  THE BEST job you can get is a lathe enforced float or “mudd job”.  The highest end tile setters and highest end tile contractors use This method of installing tile and its been the recommended way to install for over 100 years.  State sanctioned schooling along with tile consulting from the big wigs of the industry all groomed me to use mud work….its what separates the men from the boys and that’s how we do it here at Impressions.

Anybody preaching a hartibacker product is using an IMMITATION float.  Its popular here on the east coast due to the lack or real training. Gentleman here simply slap hartibacker or a similar sheeted product to the studs because they know no other way.  The corners crack, the grout changes color and severe water damage are all symptoms of hartibacker.   Your walls are out of level out of square and usually have bows or dips but its generally ok with the homeowner as long as the price is good.  My projects on the contrary don’t have any of the symptoms listed above and are still competitively priced but with much more quality.
